Look Out For Number One?
Who comes first; you, or others? I believe that it is perfectly fine to look out for yourself. I think that the best way to live is in the happy medium. Being too concerned with others can lead to neglecting yourself and your needs, and can become annoying over time. Being oblivious to others wants and needs is rude and can make you a very selfish person. I think that this way of making decisions and living your daily life will make your life more enjoyable. Not only with others like to be around you more, but you will feel better about yourself and the way you have chosen to live your life to the fullest.

Journal Entry of the Worst Day of the Year
December 24, 1843
Today was a horrid day. Nothing better than other days of this past year. Not that i didn't see this coming, Christmas Eve is as always full of nagging donation searchers and loud and unnecessary "Merry Christmas's". But as always i turn them away with a deserved "Humbug!". Sadly this doesn't seem to work on my too-cherry-for-his-own-good nephew. The boy doesn't understand that him and his precious love can be as happy as they want, but all i want is to keep my money to myself. That would do just fine for me. I went through my usual drab routine. Still putting up with my complaining employee who constantly bugs me for days off. But not getting too out of character i will do nothing less than be sure he is there bright and early the next morning.
With boredom,
Ebenezer Scrooge

Pearl Qustion #1
Q: What do we learn about the pearl's symbolism from the reactions it evokes?
A: The pearl stands for hope and a passageway to a new way of life for the owner. On the other hand it also represents the jealousy of everyone who is not in possession of the pearl.
Q: What human characteristics does the pearl bring out in these characters? Explain why you think the way that you do.
A:
Kino- Kino thinks of being able to provide bigger and better things for his family when he finds the pearl. He is set on providing a better lifestyle for his family now that he has the chance, such as giving his son the chance to attend school, and being officially married.
Juana- I realized that Juana was totally humble about her families situations and they way they lived. She came to realize that the pearl was causing more problems than it was providing better situations.
Neighbors- Kino and Juana's neighbors are extremely excited for Kino because that may show the richer people that even someone who they think to be unimportant came make something of themselevs.
Doctor- The doctor is a wealthy man who is not interested in helping Kino and Juana's poor suffering baby until he learns that they may be able to pay him more than enough. He too is jealous of the small poor family because of the luck of finding the precious pearl.
Priest- The Priest is pleased that the couple is intent on being officially married. Although he is pleased with their choice he can't help but hope and wish that Kino may decide to donate some of the money they come into by selling the pearl to the church.
Towns people- The towns people were interested in the fact that such a low citizen had found such a treasure. They began to become greedy and jealous of Kino's discovery. No matter how much they wished they had found what he did, they were still interested.
