Tom Sawyer Characteristics

Tom Sawyer is a very curious little boy. He is a troublemaker who enjoys pulling pranks, and taking chances. Tom is sneaky so much of the time that he has perfected his ways, and seldom gets caught in the act. In my opinion Tom enjoys being a mischievous boy because it provides the adventure, excitement, and suspense that he wants out of his boring community. One of Toms strengths is his ability to think on his feet. He is able to make up an excuse right on the spot. His curiosity could be looked at as a good trait, but also can be a weakness because it tends to get him into trouble.
Sid plays the part of Tom Sawyer's brother in the novel Tom Sawyer. Sid is what most kids would call a "suck-up". He is willing to rat out Tom at any time just to be his Aunt Polly's favorite. Although Sid often tattle-tales on his brother I think that secretly he is jealous of the adventures that Tom takes. One of Sid's attributes that can make him not so popular with his siblings and cousins is his big mouth. Sid has trouble keeping what he's thinking inside his head instead of announcing it to anyone that will listen.
Becky Thatcher is a young girl who catches Tom's eye the first time he sees her. She is the daughter of a highly ranked man in church, and attends Tom's school. Becky is a very open but somewhat fragile girl. When Tom accidentally slips about him and Amy, she is hurt and angry with him. I feel like Becky is the type of girl that is confident and knows what she wants. She seems like she is used to getting her way, and wants things to stay that way.
Aunt Polly is the parental guardian of Tom, Sid, and their cousin Mary. Polly is an understanding woman who has to deal with Tom's crazy situations. She wants very much to be assertive and strong. But when it comes down to punishment she is a softy who doesn't want to hurt anybody. I suspect that Polly is a very patient lady to put up with all the challenges Tom dishes out to her without ever breaking down too bad.
Huckleberry Finn is the town rebel. He is everybody's idol when it comes to being bad. He is a role model child of what all the town mothers pray their children will not turn out like. He doesn't attend school, church, and nobody is charge of him as far as he's concerned. Huck is very superstitious with cures, chants, and rumors around town. He looks big and unbreakable but when he was with Tom in the graveyard he showed that maybe he wasn't so brave after all.
